Durham Belt Line for Everybody is a project dedicated to envisioning and creating sustainable and equitable public infrastructure in Durham.
We focus on transforming narratives about green infrastructure and public investments to center racial equity and mobility justice and seek to build a broad base of community advocates to do the same. Our goal is to ensure the voices of historically disenfranchised communities and those most impacted are centered in the design and construction process, that those communities don't carry the displacement burden of creating next-generation green infrastructure, and that additional aspects of public infrastructure investments—affordable housing, fair policing, arts, history, and culture, and economic and workforce development—are also considered with equity in mind. Green public infrastructure should be just public infrastructure.
The first meetings are being facilitated by Justin Robinson and Tara Mei Smith of Extra Terrestrial Projects.
