EMPIRICAL STUDIES OF GREEN DISPLACEMENT
Barcelona Laboratory for Urban Environmental Justice and Sustainability has documented outcomes of green infrastructure projects in historically marginalized communities that are not developed with a community-lead or initiated process. They call these spaces, GREENLULUS, or green locally unwanted land uses.
Their 5-year quantitative study, Green Trajectories, they look at the effects of greening and equity in 50 global cities over a 25 years span.
Kenneth Lewis and Tammy Gould study green gentrification in 5 projects in New York City.
Lewis and Gould's main conclusion is that sequencing matters. Equity policies and implementation must happen in advance of construction to prevent extreme displacement.
